About Me:

I graduated from the University of Georgia in 1974 with a B.S. Ed in Exceptional Children. For about the next 25 years, I taught special needs children of all ages and exceptionalities. Somewhere in there, I married, had three daughters and graduated from Valdosta State University with a M.S. Ed. During these years I became interested in computers and how technology could enhance the learning of my special students. While teaching at Hahira Middle School I had the opportunity to become a Media Specialist and found another home for my love of children and technology. Several years later I joined the staff of the Central Office as an Instructional Technology Specialist. I am looking forward to our inaugural "Teach 21" class because I know we will all learn great strategies and techniqes from each other.

A Positive Experience with Instructional Technology:

In the HMS Media Center we would collaborate regularly with our teachers on technology related projects. One example is a lesson we did to impact the amount students were reading  in specific genres. We allowed one classroom of students to read newly acquired historical fiction books before the books were added to the collection. After reading the books and creating a report on their books, the students videoed each other's reviews. The reviews were based on a rubric which had been developed by the teacher and the media specialist. The reviews were then run continuously in the media center with a table display of the new books. It was amazing how much interest this simple project sparked. This is an example of taking a standard lesson, incorporating a form of technology and stepping the content up to a higher level thinking skill.
