About Me:

I am beginning my ninth year in education. My first three years were spent teaching at Clinch County High School in Homerville, Georgia. This will be my sixth year at LHS. I teach in the Ninth Grade Academy at the high school in the English department.

A Positive Experience with Instructional Technology:

This past spring semester my classroom went almost completely paperless. Luckily, I had a very willing administration who allowed me to dive right in to this process. It was very fast paced and exciting. But, there are some things that I am looking forward to doing differently this semester.

Interests:

  • My seven year old twins, Treyson and Reid
  • Shopping
  • Spending time with family and friends

My Teach 21 Project

Teach 21: Summer Technology Course

Proposed Project: Romeo and Juliet Radio Broad/Podcast

Standards: NETS        1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Through the integration of technology in the classroom, students will be encouraged to constantly engage in higher order thinking skills, and incorporate those formulations into completed projects. The use of podcasting in one way in which students will be able to receive information at the beginning of units, and communicate their own ideas at the end of units, as outlined in this project for the concluding lesson for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet unit.

You will create a radio show recorded as a podcast for Romeo and Juliet using Audacity. Please read the directions very carefully. Remember to give your radio show a name. Think about your own favorite radio personalities for inspiration. Be Creative! Your Romeo and Juliet radio broad/podcast must contain the following elements:

A News Segment:   The segment must be 9 - 10 written sentences long and contain a quote from a witness. This news segment must contain the 5 W’s of journalism: who, what, when, where, and why.  A perfect example of the type of news segment that must be included in your broad/podcast is the segment heard on all Black Crow Media stations by Lee Henderson.

·   Example: "Fight Between the Families", "Double Suicide", "Tybalt Slain", "Romeo Banished", "Romeo and Juliet get Married!"

Advertisement:   You will create two advertisements for a product or service that would or could be used during the times of Romeo and Juliet. These will be presented as commercials on your broad/podcast. Your advertisement (commercial) may contain sound effects or music. Be as creative as you wish.

·   Example: Friar Laurence's wedding chapel, Rope Ladder supply house, Sword warehouse, Hay for Horses, Carriages for Rent

Obituary: An obituary is a death announcement.  It tells a little about the life and death of a person.  You will write an obituary for one of the characters that died that will be orally reported on your broad/podcast (Tybalt, Romeo, Juliet, Paris, Mercutio, or Lady Montague).  You will list and discuss things like: Where they were born? How did they die? You will have to make some of this information up; however, it should go along with the story. The written obituary that will be recorded as part of the radio broad/podcast should be 5 - 6 sentences long. One of your DJs, or jointly both DJs, will announce and discuss the death of one of the major characters of Romeo and Juliet.

Advice Segment: Romeo and Juliet make many mistakes; therefore, they probably could use some good advice.

·   Example: How can the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets be brought to an end? What should the families’ punishments be from Prince Escalus for ignoring his repeated warnings?

How Will I be graded?

Your grade depends on adherence to project guidelines.  Please see the attached rubric for specific grading guidelines. Be sure to read directions carefully. The project is due ________________ at the end of class. Good Luck!
